December is a month of jubilation! We recognize the brotherhood that exists among all people, kindled by the festivities of Christmas, Hannukah, and Kwanzaa. There's a magic in the air that's almost tangible ~ hands give freely, smiles radiate goodwill and cheer, the best in the human heart blossoms. The holiday celebrations make the month fly by! We're so busy, we may fail to notice how quickly night comes. Then, on the 21st, something wonderful happens. The Winter Solstice arrives, assuring us that though cold weeks await, every day will be filled with more light than the previous one. Perhaps "light" is the gift that December gives us ~ the light of love, the light of joy, the light of giving. November is a month of gratitude. The Thanksgiving holiday is its crowning glory, as families and friends gather to reflect on their material and spiritual abundance. We're so blessed, it's easy to overlook the many things we have to be thankful for ~ our health (and skilled medical care when we need it), our freedom, money enough (and charities to help us should we need a helping hand), our education, our ability to dream and work toward that dream, loved ones to laugh (and cry) with, glorious sunrises and sunsets, our beloved pets. Every life has its sorrows and frustrations ~ it wouldn't be living without them! But dwelling on our blessings can help diminish the effect of the storms we have to endure. As you drift off to sleep, make it a habit to count your blessings ~ you'll have a year of sweet dreams! October is the month of breathtaking beauty. Nature dazzles our eyes with one last hurrah before retiring for the Winter, cloaking the trees in vivid hues of burgundy, gold, and orange. The trees' beautiful colors were there all along, but were hidden by a conformity of green. They shed their green uniform to reveal their individual beauty, because the changing season alters their daily dose of sunlight. Circumstances force them to change their colors. The luckiest among us are like the trees ~ when change comes during the seasons of life, they emerge in their own glorious coat-of-many-colors, woven from the threads of both the good and the bad that is cast upon them.
